Isaiah 55

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

These familiar verses need to stay in the forefront of our prayers. I completely believe that God is at work as we seek Him; I also completely believe that we do know what that work looks like. We will be tempted at moments to think that we glimpse some facet of the big picture. We will be tempted to confuse our imaginings with his movements. That is not to say that we will be totally off-base, or see nothing aright. Nor is it to say that the glimpses are inaccurate. What I am saying is this: whatever we may glimpse, whatever we may imagine, it is only the slightest slice of what God is really doing in the hearts and lives of those who seek him. May that reality fuel our prayers with worship and awe. Let us..

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found;
call upon him when he draws near.
